As Emerald Acres Sports Connection looks back on its first year since opening, we are truly grateful for the way the Mattoon and Coles County communities have embraced us. Families, athletes, local businesses, and organizations have helped shape this facility into a vibrant hub of activity and connection. “From day one, the community welcomed us with open arms,” said General Manager Tyler Yoder. “We’re proud to serve this region, and we look forward to continuing to grow alongside the people who make Coles County such a special place.” This first year has shown us just how strong and supportive this community is, and we are honored to be part of it.
Over the past year, Emerald Acres has hosted a wide range of events that highlight both the versatility of the facility and the enthusiasm of our guests. From the NASP state archery tournament and Hype Nation volleyball tournaments to the IKWF regional wrestling tournament, we’ve welcomed thousands of athletes through our doors. Major community and corporate gatherings such as the Rural King Sales Expo and the Chamber of Commerce brunch further showcased how the facility can bring people together for occasions of all kinds. These events — along with many other additional tournaments, programs, and celebrations — have helped establish Emerald Acres as a destination for both sports and community engagement.
Looking ahead, the future is bright. With our outdoor fields scheduled to open in June 2026, Emerald Acres is preparing to expand its impact even further by attracting more athletes, teams, and visitors to Coles County for both indoor and outdoor play. “We’re just getting started,” said Events Manager J.R. Hodges. “The next phase of Emerald Acres will allow us to host even more tournaments, grow our community offerings, and continue bringing new energy and visitors into this region.” We are committed to building on the momentum of our first year, and we look forward to providing more opportunities for families, athletes, and organizations to come together and experience all Emerald Acres has to offer.
