Building a Destination: Emerald Acres and the Continued Growth of Mattoon

As we welcome the new year, Emerald Acres is proud to reflect on the continued growth of the broader Emerald Acres development in Mattoon. From the beginning, this project was envisioned as a destination and a hub for the community — one that brings people together through sports, retail, dining, and shared experiences. By attracting tournaments, events, and visitors from across the region, Emerald Acres also plays a role in supporting preexisting local businesses throughout Mattoon and Coles County through increased sports tourism driven economic activity.

The Shops at Emerald Acres now feature a strong lineup of businesses that are open and serving the community, including Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Panda Express, Texas Roadhouse, Sierra, Famous Footwear, Michaels, Five Below, Ross Dress for Less, Bealls, Ulta Beauty, Maurices, and Bath and Body Works. In addition, hospitality development is underway with both the Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn currently under construction, further strengthening the area as a destination for visitors and overnight guests.

As development continues, we’re excited about what lies ahead for Emerald Acres and the surrounding area. With more businesses still to come, this project will continue to grow as a destination that brings people together, attracts new visitors, and supports long-term investment along with local businesses in Mattoon and Coles County as we move into the year ahead.
