Emerald Acres Welcomes Thousands for Hype Nation Central Illinois Challenge

[MATTOON, IL] February 4, 2025 – Emerald Acres Sports Connection reached a major milestone this past weekend by hosting its largest tournament yet, the Hype Nation Central Illinois Challenge. This two-day volleyball event welcomed 68 teams from four states—Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois—and saw an estimate of over 2,800 attendees, including more than 800 players and 2,000 spectators.

The tournament not only highlighted Emerald Acres as a premier sports destination but also delivered an estimated nearly $350,000 economic impact to the Coles County community. This estimate includes revenue from lodging, food, and retail generated by the event, contributing significantly to local businesses and services.

“This tournament was a fantastic way to showcase Emerald Acres and how the effect of a large nationally branded tournament will have on the Mattoon community,” said J.R. Hodges, Events Manager.

“Hype Nation did a fantastic job managing the tournament, and we appreciate their efforts in delivering a seamless event experience. We look forward to deepening our relationship and welcoming more tournaments to Emerald Acres in the future,” said Tyler Yoder, General Manager.

The event drove substantial spending, with nearly 800 chicken tenders sold on-site. Additional spending included an estimate of over $150,000 in food, beverage purchasesand retail shopping in the local community. The tournament also had a significant impact on local lodging, with traveling teams booking over 200 hotel rooms.

As Emerald Acres’ largest tournament to date, the Hype Nation Central Illinois Challenge marked an exciting beginning and provided insight into what’s to come. Emerald Acres is eager to continue supporting the community and looks forward to building momentum with more successful tournaments.
